Establishment of ALUMINIUM OF GREECE S.A.

The Protocol for the establishment of an alumina-aluminium plant is signed between the Greek State and the contractors (Pechiney – Compadec – Industrial Development Organisation – Niarchos Group).

Construction of the industrial facilities begins in Agios Nikolaos, Viotia

07/04/1963 The Prime Minister Konstantinos Karamanlis, accompanied by the Ministers for Coordination, Industry and Agriculture and by the President of the Parliament, launches the construction of the plant.

The plant opens and production is launched

The vision is turned to reality. The plant is inaugurated and begins the production of alumina and aluminium from Greek bauxites.

The plant facilities are expanded and production is doubled.

A decade of prosperity and growth for the plant, which expands its facilities and doubles its alumina and aluminium output. The first environmental projects are carried out.

The company is listed on the Athens Stock Exchange

The share of “ALUMINIUM OF GREECE” is listed for the first time on the Athens Exchange.

Establishment of DELPHI-DISTOMON S.A.

The subsidiary “DELPHI-DISTOMON” is established. The company is the second largest bauxite producer in Greece, and is the result of the merger of “DELPHI BAUXITES” with “GREEK DISTOMON BAUXITES”.

Installation of Gas Treatment Centres for the reduction of the fluoride contained in electrolysis gas emissions

Gas Treatment Centres are installed to reduce the fluoride contained in electrolysis gas emissions.

New investments are carried out to increase alumina production.

Establishment of the society “UNION OF ALUMINIUM OF GREECE EMPLOYEES”

The society “UNION OF ALUMINIUM OF GREECE EMPLOYEES” is established.

Investments to automate the supply process for the electrolysis basins

The conversion of the supply process for the electrolysis basins from peripheral- to point-flow is carried out successfully. Supply flow is now automated and computer-driven.

ALCAN Group acquires Pechiney Group

The Canadian aluminium producing ALCAN Group acquires Pechiney Group and, by extension, ALUMINIUM OF GREECE.

MYTILINEOS Group acquires ALCAN’s majority stake

MYTILINEOS Group acquires ALCAN’s majority stake in ALUMINIUM OF GREECE.

ALUMINIUM launches the operation of its 1st Filter Press for Bauxite Residues

Around €12 million are invested in state-of-the-art technology for the management and utilisation of bauxite residues, consisting of four filter presses. The installation of the fourth filter press signals the achievement of the Company’s target to dispose all bauxite residues on land.

Merger by absorption of ALUMINIUM OF GREECE S.A. with MYTILINEOS HOLDINGS S.A.

Conclusion of the merger by absorption of ALUMINIUM OF GREECE by MYTILINEOS HOLDINGS S.A., with parallel delisting of the company’s share from the Athens Exchange. The Group’s metallurgy branch is split and transferred to ALUMINIUM S.A. Delphi-Distomon becomes a subsidiary of MYTILINEOS HOLDINGS S.A.
Launch of operation for the Combined Heat and Power (CHP) plant, located within the industrial complex of ALUMINIUM. The plant supplies steam to the alumina and aluminium processing plants, replacing the use of 150,000 tons of fuel oil.

ALUMINIUM is awarded the First Prize by the European Aluminium Association.
