Athens, Greece – 19 September 2024 – Aiming to reduce gender inequality in the STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics), METLEN Energy & Metals («METLEN») undertakes initiatives to support and empower women, who remain consistently underrepresented in these fields. Despite progress in recent years, women still account for only 28% of the global workforce in STEM, creating barriers to their career advancement and contributing to a significant gender gap in leadership positions.
METLEN has once again joined forces with the Knowl social enterprise for lifelong learning, moving forward with the second cycle of FemStem, helping women strengthen their skills and stay at the forefront of technological developments.
The new six-month cycle focusing on STEM emphasizes the need for continuous education and specialization. The program will offer 30 hours of training and counseling, focusing on skills required in today's job market, such as soft skills, hard skills, and digital capabilities. Additionally, services like CV design and customization, interview simulations with experienced HR executives, and direct networking opportunities with the job market will be provided.
The first cycle of the FemStem program made a substantial impact, helping 30 women realize their potential and improve their career prospects. The results were immediate: 14 have already secured employment, 8 are continuing their studies, and the rest are in the process of training or job searching.
Notably, 30% of the beneficiaries received the professional certification they desired, with a full scholarship, while the program’s social value, with an SROI (Social Return on Investment) index of 2,81 euros for every 1 euro invested, enhances both the social and economic dynamics for the beneficiaries and the community.
The program is offered free of charge and is part of METLEN’s Corporate Social Responsibility actions, supporting the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals such as No Poverty (1), Gender Equality (5), Decent Work & Economic Growth (8), and Reduced Inequalities (10).
